PCMatic.com and MyCleanPC.com Truth Test

I am going to finally take one of my test PCs, load it up with viruses and other malware and Windows problems and buy PCMatic and MyCleanPC services to see what they really do. My clients have told me they’re nothing but scams, but I want to prove it to myself once and for all. They certainly have marketing dollars, because I see their commercials all the time. Look for a complete write-up in the near future. -Joe

LiveLeak.com – How To Down Load A Computer Virus.

This video is right on, it is pretty easy to get a virus if you download and open “FREE STUFF”, from a website that you are not sure about. I think you can even get a virus from clicking on an Ad on a reputable site like Facebook or Google. They police their Ads, but they may miss one. I have especially seen it with Ads on Free Software sites and new sites.

A simple way that I check out a site is to us Alexa Traffic Rank extension in my Chrome browser. It gives you the World and US Ranking and how many sites are linked in. I figure if it has a pretty good ranking and uite a few sites linking in then it should be OK. However, if I download a piece of software I still scan it with Malwarebytes or Microsoft Security Essentials before I open it. Anyway Enjoy the Video … Joe

PC Matic and MyCleanPC … Just Say NO!

I can’t stand it, I’m sitting in my shop spending hours cleaning up computers and these commercials keep playing over and over and are such malarkey! One thing for sure, they have a BIG budget for commercials! I’ve never heard anything good about any of these types of services. It takes me hours to Clean-up a PC, especially those that have nasty Root-kit, Trojan and Backdoor viruses. Don’t waste your money on these automated “one button” tune-ups. Instead pay your favorite computer guy to do it. We computer guys run multiple Virus and Mal-ware scans and many other utilities and do eyeball checks of logs and whats running on your computer and much more. No one scan can catch all Mal-ware and viruses or fix everything that is wrong with your computer.

OK, I feel better now 🙂

One day I’m going to test these two and post a full report.

Beware of Microsoft Security Essentials Malware

I was on Facebook the other day and clicked on an article that took me to a news site and I accidentally clicked on an Ad. It took me to a site and popped up a real looking warning that Microsoft Security Essentials had found malicious processes and I needed to click to get rid of them. This would have infected my machine with something. This is the problem with Ads on Facebook and any site. You never know where it is going to take you. If this happens to you. Don’t click on the warning. Go directly to Microsoft Security Essentials and see what it says. I have found a rash of Malware on my clients PCs and this is probably how they are unknowingly getting infected.

Be safe out there!

Remove “Uw computer is vergrendeld” virus (Buma Stemra scam)

Similar to the FBI virus in the US. If you get a virus like this, shutdown your computer and call your friendly neighborhood computer guy so he can get rid of it. The “Uw computer is vergrendeld” lock screen is a computer virus, which will display a bogus malwaretips.com/blogs/uw-computer-is-vergrendeld-virus/

The Embarrassing Anatomy of a Phishing Scam

You’ve got to hand it to scam artists. They often succeed in spite of themselves. If I had a nickel for every time I retrieved a message from my inbox warning me that my PayPal account has been limited, or that my credit card has been suspended, well
